Funding proposed to strengthen America’s military and take care of service members.
The House Armed Services Committee has sent to the floor for a vote the highest-ever Defense Department budget. At $900 billion, bipartisan legislators intend to provide funding for the Pentagon, to counter global threats and to care for quality-of-life issues facing members of the Armed Forces.
“We want them to have the best resources and the best tools to do the job which is warfighting. We also want to take care of our service men and women,” said Representative Jen Kiggins of Virginia, who is also a ten-year veteran of the U.S. Navy. “This is the highest pay increase they’ve had in 20 years… That’s what our service men and women need right now. They’re all struggling with an economy that’s in tough times right now.”
Representative Mike Rogers of Alabama, the Armed Services Committee Chairman, said, “We all have the same goal, to support the men and women who serve our nation. If we keep that goal in mind, I am very optimistic that the bill we report today will enjoy strong bipartisan support.”
The Senate Armed Services Committee has passed a $886.3 NDAA, that includes funding for national security programs and a five percent pay raise for military members and civilian workforce.
According to Senator Kevin Kramer of North Dakota, “The National Defense Authorization Act is a critical part of Congress’ first Constitutional duty to protect and defend the nation.”
